If this is the case at your home, consider booking a heat repair service visit today. At Climate Solutions Heating & Air Conditioning, we believe it is our job to educate our customers so they can make the best decision for heating their home. Many times, our clients only need a basic maintenance visit to ensure safe operation.  Other times, a simple repair may be the solution. Sometimes, with large repairs, it may be more cost effective and safe to replace your heating equipment. To make an informed decision about the cost and benefits of repairing or replacing your heating system, we will take a look at the different types of equipment – and some common causes of service interruption. We will also give you some information to keep handy if you do need a replacement.

  • Heat pumps are a popular option for central heating in the home. This totally electric method offers two types or stages of heat – one generated by the condensing unit (heat pump) outside and electric heaters installed in the air handler inside. One of the most important markers for a heat pump system is the HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor). New equipment has an HSPF that ranges from 8.0 to 10, with 10 being the most efficient.

  • Gas-fired furnaces are one of the most common types of central heating in the home. They typically require either natural gas or LP (liquid propane) as a source of fuel. The AFUE (Average Fuel Utilization Efficiency) measures how efficient your equipment is. If your furnace has an AFUE of 80%, it means that 80% of the heat generated is utilized in heating the home, the other 20% is lost through the vent. High-efficiency options now range up to 97% or 98%, depending on the brand. Upgrading to a higher efficiency furnace can really make a difference on your gas bill when replacement is the best option and cut down on the heat lost in ventilation.

  • When replacing your heating system there a few things to take note of before purchasing. You may even decide it makes more sense to finance a new system. Before making your decision, consider the following…

Efficiency: Before choosing a new heating system for your home, it is important to know what type of heating system you have and what efficiency your new system will be rated at. For heat pump heating systems, the efficiency is measure by the HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor), which usually ranges from 8.0-10.0. For gas furnaces, the efficiency is rated by the AFUE ( Average Fuel Utilization Efficiency). The higher the AFUE rating, expressed as a percentage, the more efficient the furnace.

Warranty: Installing a new heating system can be a big investment in your home. It is vital to keeping you and your family comfortable during extreme temperatures. It is equally important to couple that comfort with the peace of mind that comes from knowing your equipment is warrantied. Standard warranty in the industry is 5 years, if installed properly. The brands that we install each come with at least 10 years of coverage. We can get the extra 5 years for our customers because we take the time to register the equipment for you. This ensures that you are covered should a breakdown occur. But equipment warranty is not the only warranty to consider! Labor warranties also vary from one contractor to another. Our installations now come with a 10 year labor warranty option on complete system replacements! We offer this warranty because we maintain the best practices during installation. We stand behind our work!

Rebates: One way to save when purchasing a new system is looking at the rebate options. Power companies often offer rebates on high-efficiency equipment, and sometimes even energy-saving accessories, like thermostats. There may even be tax credits for new systems to help you save even more!
